2020

overview

Due to the global pandemic, mask mandates were required worldwide. There was a lot of fear for friends and family members and people were losing their sense of of self. As Angelica quarantined with her mother, she thought of her baby niece, her immunocompromised mother, and friends on the front lines when she started this project.

Product Design

The lack of masks that provided comfort for long-term use, glasses wearers, and just all around aesthetic reasons birthed the start of months of prototyping multiple mask silhouettes, adjustable nose/ear/head straps, testing textile durability and breathability. McKenzie also never compromised craftsmanship and ease of washability. She managed a third-party seamstress as demand began to increase.

Creative Direction

Angelica branding the product as a blank canvas for anyone of any age to see themselves in. The masks were seen as a way for people to know they were safe due to the 3-layer filtering system but also feel comfortable stepping outside and seamlessly integrate this new accessory into our everyday personal style. Similar to how the fabrics were OEKO-TEX certified, the packaging materials were either recyclable or compostable. Keeping the entire process as sustainable as possible was essential to the creator.
